This thing is overbuilt in the best possible way - and may well outlast you.
The Bastion Bolt Action Pen is available in either 100% titanium or stainless steel, both with an oddly satisfying bolt-action click that you’ll find yourself playing with constantly. It’s a great pen, sure, but it’s also a low-key fidget tool. Quiet enough to click in a meeting without getting side-eye. And if you’re the kind of person who needs to keep your hands busy while you think, you’ll get it.
Now for the machining. It’s absurdly precise. A buddy of mine who literally works in aerospace couldn’t stop talking about the tolerances. When you unscrew the barrel to swap the cartridge and screw it back together, the seam just vanishes. Seriously, it looks like a solid piece of metal. It’s weirdly impressive every single time.
The pen takes standard G2 cartridges, and it comes with one that actually writes well. But if you’ve got a favorite refill already (I’m partial to the Mitsubishi Jetstream in 0.7mm), you’re covered.
Physically, it’s a bit wider than most pens and carries some real weight. The stainless version is hefty, bordering on overbuilt. The titanium one is lighter but still solid. That’s the one I’d go for if you wear your pen clipped in a shirt pocket. But either version feels dense in a good way. Writing with it feels a little more grounded. Not because the pen is doing the work, it just gives that sensation.
The wider grip and added heft make for a comfortable writing experience. Especially if you’re writing more than just a signature here and there. Honestly, it’s the kind of tool that actually makes you want to write real notes again instead of dropping half-thoughts and typos into your phone’s chaos-filled Notes app. And don’t even start me on the whole “the first line is always a title” thing that Apple forces on you.
Anyway… the pen. It’s beautifully made. It’s satisfying to use. And it’s built to take whatever your pocket, bag, or desk throws at it.
Zero regrets.
